Meet Otis Healy, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, who holds a special place in his heart for his family and for Hoag. Otis’ commitment to his family and his passion for health care have made a lasting impact.
As the benefactor of the Otis Healy Family Endowed Chair in Applied Genomics, he continues to support groundbreaking research led by Dr. Michael Demeure.
Otis was born and raised in Los Angeles as an only child. Later in his life, Otis and his late wife moved south to Laguna Beach.
With four children, 10 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren, his family has continued to multiply over the years. In fact, five of his great grandchildren were born at Hoag Hospital Newport Beach, including twin boys who spent time in the NICU. Otis expresses his heartfelt appreciation to the Hoag nurses for their support during his great grandsons’ crucial days in the NICU. “The nurses were fantastic,” Otis said. “When my grandson found out he and his wife were pregnant with their third child, there was no question that they were having their baby at Hoag.” The twins are now healthy and happy 3-year-olds.
Otis is grateful for his big family and enjoys getting together with them every year for their family reunion, which started as a tradition over 50 years ago. Otis treasures every moment spent with his growing family. From a picture of him with his first wife and four children to the present, including grandchildren, great grandchildren and more, each reunion captures the love and joy shared among generations.
