Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, California, has announced a $5 million gift from philanthropist Sue Gross in support of the Hoag Breast Center.
Made through the Sue J. Gross Foundation, the gift will support a significant expansion of the center’s services. In recognition of the gift, the center, which is located within the Women’s Health Institute at Hoag, will be renamed the Sue J. Gross Comprehensive Breast Center.
The gift from Gross follows a $1 million gift announced last month to the Hoag Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center in honor of her brother-in-law, Joseph Warpinski, who received lifesaving care at Hoag. Previous support from Gross and the William and Sue Gross Family Foundation, where she served as president until 2017, includes a gift of $20 million to fund comprehensive women’s services at the Bill & Sue Gross Women’s Pavilion, and a gift to establish the Gross Family Foundation Endowed Chair in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery.
“Many women I have known have bravely faced breast cancer, including my mother and two sisters,” said Gross. “I’m proud to be able to make this gift in all of their honors. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and my wish is that this contribution will serve as a beacon of hope for all women battling this disease, and also as a reminder that we can never stop advancing the treatments available and the search to finally find a cure.”
