HHVI in Irvine offers comprehensive diagnostic and focused therapeutic cardiovascular services performed in two new state-of-the-art catheterization laboratories. The catheterizations labs, shared with interventional radiology, are designed for heart attack treatment, stent placement in blood vessels outside the heart and the insertion of arrhythmia treatment devices including pacemakers and defibrillators.
Much of Hoag Hospital Irvine’s heart services are clustered near its emergency department, which has 14 beds designed to meet the growing needs of the Orange County community.
Hoag Hospital Irvine will also feature a full complement of non-invasive cardiovascular services including the most advanced cardiac low-dose radiation computerized tomography (CT) scanner, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), EKG,stress testing, Holter monitoring, event recording, and echocardiography. Transthoracic and transesophogeal echocardiography will also be available at the Irvine campus.
“This is a very exciting time for residents of Irvine and all of South Orange County,” says Bahram Eslami, M.D., chief of cardiovascular services at Hoag Hospital Irvine. “The addition of state-of-the-art invasive and non-invasive technology at Irvine brings Hoag’s world-class heart and vascular care closer to home for many Orange County residents.”
The most advanced technology to detect heart disease in the earliest stages
One of the most advanced new CT scanners, featuring low-dose radiation and high quality images, will be part of the heart and vascular services offered at Hoag Hospital Irvine. This superior technology will be available for all diagnostic cardiac CT procedures, including those performed for patients with chest pain that come to the emergency department.
This sophisticated low-dose cardiac CT equipment provides the highest quality imaging, but also reduces radiation exposure by up to 60 percent. Hoag is the only facility on the West Coast to offer this innovative technology and the reduction in radiation combined with improved image quality allows Hoag experts to provide the most accurate diagnosis more efficiently and safely.
The most advanced catheterization labs to treat more than the heart
A benefit of having a state-of-the-art catheterization lab shared with interventional radiology is that they are designed to treat blockages in blood vessels throughout the entire body, in addition to the heart. Conditions that cause narrowing of the blood vessels, such as peripheral vascular disease (PVD) and peripheral artery disease (PAD), affect millions of Americans every year but often go undetected because patients experience little to no symptoms. The experts at Hoag Hospital Irvine can easily treat these diseases through minimally invasive peripheral vascular stenting available in the catheterization labs
