A Message from Robert T. Braithwaite

Dear Neighbors,

I’m happy to report Hoag has been named by U.S. News & World Report as the highest-ranking

hospital in Orange County, the fourth-best hospital in greater Los Angeles metropolitan area and the ninth-best in the state.

This is the fifth year that Hoag has enjoyed such a high ranking. So why mention it here? Because set against the backdrop of a pandemic that continues to wax and wane, the achievements of Hoag’s health care workers and physician leaders shine with a particular brilliance. Our expert clinical teams met the unprecedented needs of our community while continuing to innovate and excel.

This issue of Hoag for Life highlights many of those innovations, including the Molecular Imaging & Therapy clinical trial for breast cancer, the only such trial in the world that is detecting exactly where cancer is, to inform treatment planning. Hoag launched a unique comprehensive liver program to support the rise of liver disease patients. We saw success with a cutting-edge clinical trial to stop medication resistant epileptic seizures, and another trial to help slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.

Throughout the pandemic, new lives entered the world safely and with compassion at Hoag, and we expanded upon our leading maternity program in Newport Beach and Irvine to include certified nurse midwives, doulas and private birthing suites in Irvine to honor every woman’s journey to motherhood.

Hoag also co-created a one-of-a-kind virtual reality maternity education platform that is reshaping the prenatal and post-partum experience for moms.

Even during health care’s toughest days, Hoag continued to expand, innovate and excel. Our national ranking during a pandemic is a testament to our mission – to al l that defines Hoag. We are here to provide the highest quality health care for Orange County. For now. For always. For life.

Sincerely,

Robert T. Braithwaite

President and Chief Executive Officer of Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian
