Hoag Hospital offers two campuses, in Newport Beach and Irvine, with each location providing comprehensive programs with unique offerings to ensure the safest and highest quality labor and delivery services to the community it serves. For prenatal and postpartum care and education, Hoag also offers convenient clinics and offices throughout the county to meet every need our expecting and new mothers have.

Maternity Support Nurtured by Experience

Whether a woman is a first-time or experienced mom, Hoag offers many classes for moms and their families, including prenatal education focused on childbirth, infant CPR, caring for baby, breastfeeding and more.

Hoag has taken pre- and postnatal support to a whole new level by partnering with BehaVR to co-develop NurtureVR, the first-ever virtual reality (VR) educational program for expecting and new moms. Curriculum beginning at 28 weeks of pregnancy and extending through 8 weeks postpartum. Virtual meditation, mindfulness and obstetric education help to prepare mom for birth and beyond, enhance bonding with baby, and improve breastfeeding and stress resilience.

For moms new to breastfeeding or experiencing lactation challenges, Hoag’s Breastfeeding Clinic includes expert certified lactation consultants available for one-on-one support in-person or on the phone through the Hoag BabyLine. Additionally, thanks generous to philanthropic funding, moms enjoy 24/7 on-demand video calls with lactation consultants through the Hoag Pacify App.

Hoag is committed to supporting optimal, comprehensive health for women during their perinatal experience. The Hoag Maternal Mental Health clinic team includes a reproductive psychiatrist, marriage and family therapist, sex coach and licensed clinical social worker who specializing in caring for women experiencing motherhood challenges and or perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMAD) during pregnancy and within the first year after pregnancy.

The Hoag for Her | Center for Wellness offers extensive resources such as the Pelvic Health Program for prevention and management of incontinence, prolapse and pelvic pain; sexual counseling for individuals and couples, and wellness services such as prenatal massage, yoga, Pilates, acupuncture, meditation and mindfulness.

Expertise Offers Peace of Mind

Hoag offers programs and support to meet the needs of every pregnant woman, regardless of her medical history. That means that women who have diabetes, a history of cancer or other medical issues get care that is specific and tailored to them. Similarly, Hoag offers specialized care for women who are experiencing a high-risk pregnancy or who develop COVID-19 during pregnancy. 

Hoag’s comprehensive clinical team is trained to manage the most complex maternal and newborn conditions. The world-class team of Magnet®-designated nurses, OB hospitalists, perinatologists, neonatologists and dedicated anesthesiologists are available on-site 24/7 to prevent and manage all possible emergencies. Hoag’s expertise was recently acknowledged by the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP) when they designated Hoag Hospital as a center of excellence, one of only 8 non-academic hospitals in the world to receive this accolade.

Hoag’s level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in Newport Beach and special care nursery (SCN) at the Fudge Family Birthing Suites in Irvine are staffed by expert neonatologists from Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), specialty trained neonatal nurses and respiratory therapists. Neonatal team members provide in-hospital around-the-clock care in Irvine and Newport Beach.

Options to Fit Your Birth Plan

Hoag seeks to meet women where they are and to support their desired birth journey. Certified doulas and nurse midwives are welcomed at both campuses. The maternal child units are staffed with expert clinicians and ancillary staff to support trial of labor following cesarean section (TOLAC or VBAC), induction of labor or scheduled cesarean section, surrogate and adoption births, natural physiologic labor or pain managed with medication(s) and epidural.

Additionally, Hoag offers holistic techniques to address the variety of needs of a woman during childbirth – spacious rooms with spa-like accommodations for patient and supporting family members, patient-controlled nitrous oxide, aromatherapy and wireless monitoring systems to encourage movement during labor.

When a woman chooses to deliver at Hoag, she will receive the renowned “Hoag Experience” – personalized care from expert clinical and support staff and unique amenities including a “celebration meal”.
