Dr. Allyson Brooks is the Ginny Ueberroth Executive Medical Director Endowed Chair of Hoag Women’s Health Institute. In this role she has helped establish Hoag as a Becker’s Top 100 Hospital with Excellent Women’s Health programs, helped achieve the U.S. News & World Report ranking of #41 in Gynecology with a Center of Excellence in robotic surgery and, by means of the Institute structure, has developed comprehensive programs in maternal child health, minimally invasive gynecology, breast health, maternal mental health and integrated wellness.
In addition to her leadership in women’s health, Dr. Brooks is the senior physician executive overseeing quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance, accreditation, performance improvement, infection prevention and patient relations at Hoag.
Dr. Brooks has an extensive background in leadership at Hoag since joining the medical staff in 1993. In addition to her three-year term on the Medical Executive Committee and as Chair of the Department of OB/Gyn, Dr. Brooks served on the Hoag Board of Trustees for six years including being Chair of the Quality Improvement Committee of the Board for four years. In spring 2015, Dr Brooks completed a nationally acclaimed two-year fellowship in executive leadership from the Health Management Academy. In spring 2016, she completed the mini-Advanced Training Program (miniATP) at Intermountain Healthcare in Utah in the theory and application of continuous improvement to clinical processes, bringing these shared learnings home to launch the Hoag Academy.
Dr. Brooks is a board-certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist who retired in 2013 after 21 years in private practice in Newport Beach. During the course of her clinical practice Dr. Brooks delivered over 2,000 babies, provided comprehensive and compassionate health care to women of all life stages and from ages 12 through 92, performed over 1,000 minimally invasive gynecologic surgical procedures including robotic- and laparoscopic-assisted hysterectomies, achieved the coveted designation as a physician of excellence in minimally invasive gynecology from the American Academy of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, and received Most Compassionate and Best Doctor awards.
Dr. Brooks serves as secretary of the Board of Directors of MOMS Orange County in Santa Ana, a position she has held since 2015, and joined the Board of Directors for Share Our Selves (SOS) in Costa Mesa in 2019.
She has three adult sons and a daughter-in-law, and lives in Newport Beach with her husband of 31 years.
