About Dr. Sun

Dr Jack Sun is the Director of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Jeffrey M. Carlton Heart & Vascular Institute. He specializes in minimally invasive and structural heart surgery, with deep experience in complex cardiac surgery involving mitral valve repair, aortic surgery, surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation, and mechanical circulatory support. He received his BS in Biology and Doctor of Medicine at the University of Toronto, subsequently completing his MSc and residency at McMaster University, a Canadian institution renowned for research collaborations and innovations that have transformed surgery and medical training. Finally, Dr Sun completed his Transcatheter Cardiovascular Surgery Fellowship at Harvard Medical School.

Beyond his surgical practice, Dr Sun is a dedicated researcher and thought leader in the field of cardiovascular medicine. His extensive body of work includes peer-reviewed publications on advanced surgical techniques, novel biomaterials for heart valve repair, strategies for optimizing transcatheter interventions, and clinical trials for new technologies, robotic-assisted surgery, and surgical-catheter approaches to treat complex heart disease. His work refining transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and other catheter-based interventions has helped expand access to life-saving, minimally invasive procedures for high-risk patients.
