HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – (November 10, 2014) – Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian today announced the donation of the largest single gift to the new Huntington Beach Senior Center in the Park.
The cornerstone gift of $3.775 million, being made through the Hoag Community Benefit program, will help fund the construction of the 37,500-square foot building as well as ensure the sustainability of vital programming at the center.
“At Hoag, we believe in making world-class health care more accessible to more people,” said Robert T. Braithwaite, Hoag president and CEO. “In March, we opened the expanded Hoag Health Center – Huntington Beach, which is home to some of the best Hoag Medical Group primary care physicians, as well as some of the finest specialists and state-of-the-art equipment. This gift is just the latest example of Hoag’s continued commitment to the residents of Huntington Beach.”
Roughly $2 million of the gift will fund capital costs to ensure the long-awaited senior center becomes a reality. The rest will help fund and support the sustainability of such critical programs as:
– Free clinical assessments and health education.
– The Surf City Seniors on the Go program, a vital transportation service which provides more than 200 one-way trips a day for seniors who need assistance accessing medical care and senior services.
– Home Delivered Meals program, which serves approximately 140 frail and homebound seniors providing 3 meals a day, 5 days a week, as well as providing nutritional supplements, grocery gift cards and other resources for at-risk, nutritionally compromised older adults in Huntington Beach.
– Staffing for Project Self Sufficiency, which assists low-income, single parents in Huntington Beach to become economically self-sufficient through education and personal development, child care reimbursement, emergency housing, scholarships and other services.
The new center will be built in the 343-acre Huntington Central Park and will replace the Michael E. Rodgers Seniors’ Center on Orange Street.
