NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., June 5, 2018 — Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian announced today it has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines® Heart Failure and Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Awards.
The awards highlight Hoag’s commitment to ensuring patients with heart failure and stroke receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines founded on the latest scientific evidence.
This is the first year Hoag has received the Gold Plus award for heart failure care, which is awarded to hospitals that meet advanced levels of achievement for 24 consecutive months or more and achieve 75 percent or higher compliance with four or more Get With The Guidelines Heart Failure Quality Measures.

Hoag’s Jeffrey M. For stroke care, this is the eighth consecutive year that Pickup Family Neurosciences Institute’s Stroke Program has received the Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award and the second year being recognized as a Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite, acknowledging Hoag’s role in reducing the time between the patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with the clot-buster tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA, the only drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat ischemic stroke. When given intravenously in the first three hours after the start of stroke symptoms, tPA has been shown to significantly reduce the effects of stroke and lessen the chance of permanent disability.
