Hoag Recognized for Patient Safety, Heart Care and Obstetrics by Women's Choice Award ®

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., January 22, 2016 — Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian today announced it has received the 2016 Women’s Choice Award® as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Safety, Heart Care, and Obstetrics.

This is the third consecutive year (2014 – 2016) that Hoag has received these awards in Heart Care and Obstetrics, and the second consecutive year (2015 – 2016) for Patient Safety.

This evidence-based designation is the only award that identifies the country’s best health care institutions based on robust criteria that consider female patient satisfaction, clinical excellence, and what women say they want from a hospital.

“Hoag is proud to continue to be recognized as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Safety, Heart Care and Obstetrics by Women’s Choice Awards,” said Robert T. Braithwaite, president and CEO of Hoag. “These awards validate our vision and are a badge of honor for our physicians, nurses and staff who have been dedicated to providing a combination of world-class innovation and community-based compassion to the communities we serve.”

“It is always an honor to receive such a prestigious award,” said Allyson Brooks, M.D., Chief Quality Officer and the Ginny Ueberroth Executive Medical Director Endowed Chair of the Women’s Health Institute at Hoag. “But in this particular case, what’s even more rewarding is the fact that the recognition is based in part on feedback from our female patients. Caring for them, and touching their lives in meaningful ways, is a profound privilege and an incredible source of pride for all of us at Hoag.”

The America’s Best Hospitals scoring process is unique in that it is the only national list that is evidence-based and focuses on female patient satisfaction. Awarded hospitals ranked above the national average for patient recommendations, as indicated by the data reported by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) surveys.

“We honor Hoag for being named and recognized as a hospital of choice among women, for it represents the strongest and most important consumer message in today’s health care marketplace when considering that women account for 90% of all health care decisions. Improving patient safety is not only a matter of error prevention, it’s a focused effort to create the safest patient experience,” said Delia Passi, Founder and CEO of the Women’s Choice Award.
